photovoltaic panel tilt for maximum performance (Europe) [Technical Note]
In this study we include some interesting data regarding the tilt of your PV panels to receive the maximum performance from your system.
Please note that the decision is not that simple. It depends whether you are under a net metering or a net billing contract. If you are producing more than your contract during the summer and this production is lost then you should consider tilting more you panels for a better production during the winter. A critical role to this decision is the presence or not of a BESS (Battery Energy Storage System).
A more detailed study is required per customer and the current contract, the way the energy is consumed during each season and month, and the different elements installed, in order to achieve maximum performance of enabled assets.
Similarly any solution suggested from any contractor should take into account all elements proposed and available contract options in order to dimension the system correctly.
Another important aspect is the installation area of the PV panels. In some cases the optimal tilt may not be available because of constraints. Some solutions may require the panels to be installed at 0 or 90 degrees. The table here shows by how much you should increase the number of panels in order to achieve the desirable production.
